Can anyone tell me how I can find a persons original birth when I only know the the adopted details

p.s
I n the 1800's did adoption mean the same as it does today or anything else?

Formal adoptions only started in 1927, before this it was a casual arrangement,

Legal adoption didnt start till 1927 so any fostering/adoption prior to that would have been between the families as a private arrangement,
On 1800 census.s adopted child would mean the child of one of the spouses from a previous relationship. A head of house would describe his wife's children that she brought into the marriage as adopted but this would be to distinguish that he wasn't their natural father
