Maybe it's me...Sometimes when i look for a relative on census or bmd for example the name George Jones the Jan Feb March
will show in alphabetical order from from say Glyn Jones to the last name so where is the page that shows Ga down to Gl.these are not real names just an example.

I knew i didn't explain it properly sorry If you go onto BMD to find the marriage of George Jones 1919 the Oct Nov Dec record starts at Jones Grace which means in 3 months no one in Wales with the name Jones whose first name alphabeticaly started before GRace Where are the
Gary's...Gordon's...Gareth's...Glyn's...Geraint Jones's

Without specific names to check it out it's very hard to say. They should be there. Are you looking at a particular registration district or county?

This problem has happened to me on a couple of occasions now it seems to be a problem with GR there seems to be a page missing with the other half of names sometimes as i said in Wales there should be dozens of George's and others before it gets to Grace Jones There are very often 2 pages for each 3 month set for the more popular names and 1919 after the war there could even be 3 pages

I have tried to replicate your problem, but i thought you were using Freebmd.

But now i see you mean records on GR, this is just one of the many problems using GR to look for records, whatever they are, enough said

For BMD use Freebmd this is free

for heavens sake John

don't use GR

Go to www.freebmd.org.uk

That's the official site, it carries the records from 1 July 1837 to currently about 1935 or 1940, and is continually being updated by volunteers

It's free

and MUCH better than GR

In fact, to be brutally honest

.......... I wouldn't pay the extra to access records on GR anyway. It's much better to use the original sites, or pay for ancestry (or findmypast)!

GR only directs you to other sites anyway!

Another who agrees with Sylvia and others

www.freebmd.org.uk

is a much better option, and they are upgrading data regulary.
From 1911 upwards they also supply mothers maiden name on birth entries, which is a great help.

Suppose I search for all John's marrs 1920q2 in Glamorgan.
This quarter is only 63% complete, so it's not really a surprise that the last John is

Marriages Jun 1920 (63%)
Moyle John Evans Pontypridd 11a 1785

In particular, there's no John Price, Rees, nor Williams.

Thru 1915, 1148 of 1182 registers have been completely transcribed at FreeBMD to date. With one exception, the completion rate of the remaining 34 regos is 90% or better. In the last case (M-1887q2), FreeBMD are missing half the images, so it's only 49% done. I don't know the situation in the other 33 incomplete cases, maybe there's missing images there too.

you could always look at the actual index, either on fiche at your local records office or on a pay per view site such as ancestry

Although Ancestry's interface is much smoother, it is possible to view the image on FreeBMD (modulo missing images) - if you've got a hit, then you can usually click on the spectacles next to his entry. Otherwise, you can take the "view images" link at:
