Crikey you've all been so busy for me! Thank you very much.

Sylvia - thanks very much for the info - I'll try FreeBMD next time. GR is a bit awkward for me, for some reason it tends to make my computer crash and when it is up and running it is hard to read with a wriggling 18 month old on your lap!

Somerset Girl - I'm really impressed! That must be him. FMP looks like another good site then.

I was looking for a much earlier death because I had been told there were 4 children and one had died young. From what I can see here there were only three - as I had orginally thought.

After all this I'm hoping he ties up to my tree anyway - the Harvey side are proving to be a bit of a challenge but I think, once I get the missing piece of the puzzle, an awful lot of information is going to fit right in with it.

Thank you all for your time and help.

Is this the birth if so it was Surrey

David H L Taylor Jan Feb Mar 1920 Epsom Surrey,Kent (MMN Harey)

this would tie up with the death registration, but why would she say he died young ? this would put him at 86.

I was looking for a much earlier death as Jennifer thought he died as an infant. Ancestry don't have 2006 deaths yet.

Well done!!

Well I am impressed,SomersetGirl
Can you explain how to get this result?

When the birth certificate arrives you could phone the nearest register office to where the birth took place and see if they have a death for him that got missed off the list sent to the GRO. There isn't a death for him in the index on Ancestry.

The BEST place to search for bmds between 1 July 1837 and about 1935/1940 is www.freebmd.org.uk

This is what you might call the "official" site.

Volunteers are transcribing all the records in the GRO onto the wb ......... updates are being added constantyl, hopefully they will reach the end (1983) soon.

Records after 1983 were entered onto the internet.

This is a FREE site

The seocnd place to search is on ancestry.org.co

bmds from 1837 to ca 1916 have been trqanscribed by freebmd, so you are paying to look at something that you can see for free

records from 1916 to 1005 have been transcribed by ancestry.

You do have to have a subscription to ancestry

GR falls way way behind .............................. I believe they just direct you to an index, not even the transcribed record.

Thank you folks.

Well it has been playing on my mind this one. His mother's maiden name is Harvey and he might have been my great uncle. Somebody on here very kindly helped me out with another search in my tree and in doing so found him along with my other great uncle, great aunt and my grandmother all of whom I knew pretty well. I thought it might have just been a coincidence that he was born in the same area and his mother's maiden name was the same as my grandmother etc so I put it to the back of my mind. Problem is both my sister and I clearly remember our grandmother mentioning very soon before she died that she had another little brother and that he died young. I clearly remember her saying 'he was a lovely little lad'. We thought she might have been rambling on a bit and got confused - she was quite old and rather ill at the time and we thought nothing more it. Now I wonder if it was true.

Got his birth cert on order but was hoping to find some info before it arrives mid next week.

At the moment I am trawling (for a fourth time!) through the death register looking for a David H L Taylor. All I know is that he was born March 1920 in Epsom and I believe he died as an infant or child - probably in Epsom district as the family stayed local.

Is there any way or any site where I can add Epsom to my search criteria or do I have to search for all David Taylors in all reg districts. I'm currently searching on GR.

Thank you :0)
