Rather hoped there might be more children, but doesn't looklike it:
1911
GILBERT SIDNEY M 1902 9 Romford Essex
GILBERT ANNIE F 1878 33 Romford Essex
GILBERT HAROLD M 1900 11 Romford Essex
GILBERT JOHN M 1879 32 Romford Essex

As you know when Harold and Sydney died - are you saying they never married? Or you don't know? Have you got the certs to check who registered the deaths?

Thanks for advice Jonesey & Jan. My GGGGrandfather's siblings wrote letters which have been kept in the family so I thought I would try to find living descendants who maybe interested in reading them.

With GILBERT as surname ive tried to follow the family with the most distinctive names. So followed John Ernest Edwin GILBERT ( b 1878 Gravesend Kent) who married Annie Louisa STONE & had known sons, Harold John Edward b 1900 & Sydney Robert James GILBERT b 1901.

Searching deaths, Harold died 1973 in Colchester district,Essex & Sydney died 1973 Yeovil district,Somerset.

But having trouble finding marriages, children etc. Have census info so am only looking forwards.

Thanks

Kerri, good advice from Jonesey (as always!). Plus:

As when tracing backwards, start with what you know. If you can't find people with the same ancestors on here/Ancestry/FMP, you need to start looking for marriages and offspring.

For this info up to about 1930's the best place is freebmd. After this most people use Ancestry I think.

Once you get to living people you can check out the current electoral register. I believe the site to use is 192.com, alternatively there are people on this site who will search for you. Jean has a thread on Records Office for example.

Does anyone have any tips on tracing people forwards? Trying to find living relatives.
Thanks
