Hi Gemma

Some family history societies sell CDs or even hard copies of parish registers. All costs money of course, so the familysearch is the best place to start.

There were no BMD certificates before 1837 so it will be a trawl of the Parish Registers of the area/place where they lived !

The answers yes Gemma

Some local studies libraries have microfilm copies ,transcribed copies of parish records others are held at county record offices and some churches keep their own but charge a lot for searching or refuse to search at all

First try using the IGI (international Genealogical Index) at
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

Failing that if you know where the family lived, the local recods office or archives will hold the parish registers for that area. A few are on the internet

This may sound a very simple question but how do you find birth, marriage, death certificates before 1837. Is this by using Parish registers? If so how and where do you find this info?
