I'm doing my daughter's boyfriends tree as a Christmas Present and need to find a marriage in India. Could some kind soul please help me.

Devereaud John Harvey married an Eliza Agnes (I don't know whether Agnes is her 2nd christian name or surname. Around 1875 I would think. I don't know when they were born but know they had a daughter in 1878 and another in 1882 I have their birth and baptism dates thanks. I Just need to know when Devereaux John married and her full name.

I have been working on his tree all morning and now have to go out, sorry to ask for a look up just as I'm about to leave, but tonly just thought of asking for the look up, and as they are here later this afternoon for the evening, I won't be able to request it then.

Thanks again to anyone who can help and once again apologies for not being online.

Regards Lou

Hi Margaret,

Sorry I didn't get back to you, something came up unexpectedly.

No I'm not sure he married in India. I don't have any info on him at all. I found his 2 daughter's were born in India and one definatley married there as I have her details from her husband's military records. I've searched on the LDS (familysearch) site and found her father's full name and that of her mother as Eliza Agnes. But that's all I know. I don't know where Devereux was born and cna't find him on any census. So am struggling.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again, and sorry I'ts taken me a while to respond. Regards, Lou

Have you tried searching using Deveraud as the surname, it's worth a try?

Found this:

Deaths Dec 1869 (>99%)

Do you know where your Devereux came from?

Hi Linda, & Mrs Grumpy,

His full name was Dervereux John Harvey, Harvey being the surname. Sorry I don't know where he came from. The info I got was from his daughter's marriage; and I also found her on the Mormon site, where it gives his name. I tried to search for his birth and marriage on there with no luck. I also tried all the free bmd sites with no luck and I tried on Ancestry for all census years, with no luck.

Thanks for helping, Lou

Familysearch has an entry for the birth and christening of

Devereluf John Harvey (Batch C000684) in 1854.

I tried the India Office search, but it does not come up with a match for this entry or for those of his daughters. The IGI entries are all from a film of parish register transcripts from the Presidency of Madras (Register General, 1698 to 1948).

The India Office also carry out searches of their material - see http://indiafamily.bl.uk/UI/about.aspx.

(There is another IGI record for Devereux Augustus Harvey, with different parents, born/baptised in 1853, although this record is an LDS member submitted record, so it might be possible that this is the same individual).

Hi Ivy,

Thanks very much for helping. I shall take a look at the info you found. With such an unusual christian name it never occured to me to search for a different spelling, so thanks.

It's much appreciated. Regards, LOu
