I obtained the death cert for my great grandfather who was killed at work at an inquest was held. All the info was on the death cert.

You could try the local reference/archives library.
I was looking for information surrounding an ancestor's suicide in the 1870's and felt sure it must have been in the local newspaper.

I phoned the reference library and found the lady there really helpful. She looked up and found 2 newspaper reports, one of which was the Coroner's report containing lots of information.
She photocopied and sent them to me straight away - no cost.
Aren't some people marvellous!!

Good luck.

Thank's for the information I will look into it. I think I might be able to get a report as my great uncle died in 1954. Thank's again to all.

Coroner's offices sometimes keep old inquest reports, sometimes they survive in the local records offices, but sadly many were also destroyed.

Where records have survived, I believe there is a closure period and any person wishing to view records less than 75 years old has to obtain permission from the relevant Coroner. This is usually only granted to close relatives of the deceased or academic researchers who publish their finding without naming subjects.

Inquests were usually reported in the local newspapers so this is often a good place to look. As the death cert gives the date of the inquest if you email and ask nicely you can sometimes get a library to send a copy of the newspaper report for the cost of copying and postage.
