I believe she was in the south. My relation is English and moved to Rhodesia around 1965 she met her second husband there and they lived in Rhodesia for a few years before moving back to England and marrying in England in 1971.

If your relative was a white of European descent it is more likely that (s)he was in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), as that is where the largest numbers were, and still are. Southern Rhodesia declared its UDI (Unilateral Declaration of Independence) as Rhodesia in 1965 and eventually became the independent country of Zimbabwe in 1980 (via a couple of intermediate steps). Since then, well over half the whites have left the country.

It's not impossible that s(he) was in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), just statistically less likely.

Thank you

I believe it was the part known now as Zimbabwe as my relation was there from about 1965-1970.

Up until 1964, the two modern countries of Zimbabwe and Zambia were collectively known as Rhodesia. In 1964, the Northern part of Rhodesia became independent and renamed itself Zambia. Southern Rhodesia was renamed Zimbabwe in 1980.

Does anyone know what the current name for the country of Rhodesia is as one of my ancestors spent time over there in the 60s.

All I know is that it is in the African continent and was called this during the 60s and early 70s
