Carli.

If you have her death cert, it should *hopefully* say somewhere at the top of the cert... "How long in the Colony"
eg: 30, 40, 50, ect...years. or perhaps 20 years in S.A and 30 years in N.S.W

This would give an indication of when she perhaps arrived in Australia.

Hi Tony
Thanks for your reply. My ancestor's name was Bridget Burns. She died in 1895. According to her death certificate she was 72y.o. when she died in Darlington, NSW.
She was born in County Wicklow, Ireland and her father's name was Michael Burns.
Apparently Bridget initially spent time in South Australia and then moved to the Cooma region of NSW where she raised her family.
I would be grateful of any assistance.
Kind regards
Carli

Or you could check yourself at this link.

Scroll down to where it says "Find a convict" and type in a name.

Hello
I am in Australia. I have just discovered that one of my ancestors came to Australia from Ireland in the early-mid 1800's. What would be the best way to find out how she came to be in Australia? I do not know if she emigrated or was sent here as a convict. I have her full maiden name and married name.
Thanks for your advice :)
Cheers
