"Lifted " from the "find my past" site re: post 2005 records

GRO has withdrawn the service to sell birth, marriage and death marriage indexes and the last indexes supplied to commercial customers are for 2006 Births and Deaths.

To apply for the certificate of a marriage which occurred after 2005, it is necessary to contact the appropriate registration office directly.

A list of contact details for registration offices can be found at Genuki.org.uk

James.
Can you get an electoral register look up to see which area she is in?

Thanks for this. Is it possible to visit a records office in person to check post-2006 info?

The GRO have not yet made records after 2006 available to genealogical sites, and at the moment there are no plans to do so, as far as I understand.

The reason behind this was because they were planning to digitize their records and provide a service directly to the public. Unfortunately, the work was incomplete when the budget was used up and the Government were not prepared to allocate more cash. As a result the contract with Siemens who were responsible for the scanning was terminated, and the project mothballed.

It is to be hoped that the project will be completed at some time in the future.

Hi Katharine,

Thanks for the reply! I don't actually know the district my birth mother is or was last living in. The last details I have for her are in 1976. I hoped there was a central records office which would contain info for the whole country (post-2006).

Thanks again,
Martin

Hi Martin I think that to get newer information you will have to contact the registry/archives office for the district you're after most have websites with their contact information on it but it might be worthwhile going to the office yourself if its close to you they usually have people there who can help you find what you're looking for

Hi,

I have been using online BMD indexes to find information about my birth mother. However these only offer information up to 2006. Is it possible to search for more recent info? I believe I read that we can visit certain records offices?

Many thanks for any help!
Martin
