Also just of interest, found on two occassions another child born several years earlier baptised same day and subsequently died before next census, would never have known of their existance.

LMA = London Metropolitan Archives.

Thanks for the tip Heather.

Here's another...whilst tinkering around (excuse pun)...I have noticed a few mistakes in the records, so again, the rule is not to take the info as gospel.

Example:
London Baptisms...my g. aunt's baptism record has her sister's (my grandmother) date of birth and not her own.

Another couple of my baptisms have been given the wrong parents and the reason I know this is because they are my rellies and I know which children belong to which parents.....there were 2 families with same surname living in same street (the fathers of the baptised babes were brothers) and they must have decided to get a load of their childen all baptised on the same day, rather like a job lot I suppose!!
Looking closely at the records, you can see that the details were penicilled in and then written up later, but the person doing the writing up later got a bit muddled and has given the same parents to all 10 kids!!!

Just something to be aware of.

Wow! Heather-I wish you hadn't alerted us to that. (just kidding)

I winged it with Samuel as first name. Interesting things do come up. A lot of workhouse births. Some "left before registering". And the usual amount of illegible entries/scans. (If anyone's looking for Samuel,son of Edwin,a picture framer and Elizabeth-he's there. The big ink blotch on the last name doesn't help.)

I really appreciate this.

Thank you for that. I have been trying to find my nan and grand dads but cant find them.

Can find they brothers and sisters but not them. So when i go to LMA when it opens will give that a go. Or when i get to the library.

Im sure a lot of you will have already realised this - but whilst fiddling about trying to find children born to a couple in the east end, I inadvertently left off the child's surname and just entered the name Richard in the first name box.

I was surprised to see lots of records come up with the baptised childs name given just as a first name - fortunately the records then give most parents with their surname.

Just a thought in case anyone is missing a childs baptism.
