History of houses family have lived in

Gwyn in Kent

I borrowed a book from the library which was a history of the occupants of a Surrey Cottage.
The illustrations were superb. Local fairs and other village events were noted in the borders of the pages. Plants of the area were also drawn.

Although a town property would have a different emphasis the book is a wonderful example of what can be achieved.

A Commoners Cottage by Frances Mountford.

Thank you Satnav

I will try this in the next week or so. I am particularly interested in Lambeth
which I think is South London and in Bushey Hertfordshire

First you have to check with the local reference library,to find out if the houses have ever been renumbered.
Also is it the same street/road
Eg
Alma Road Woolston Southampton was renamed Florence Road about 1927

Sounds a daft question Birdi, but is it possible to search census by address or road name?

Bridget

I am becoming more and more interested in this idea.

I've thought of doing this for my daughter's house which was built in 1850.

You could collect a series of census records then search for the families that lived there over the years, depending on when the houses were built.

This would only be a useful excercise for older houses, though.

I have decide that for the netx few months I want to put some flesh on my family tree and so would like to learn more about the houses they lived in and the work they did. Has anyone suggestions they would share with me as to how to achieve this...I also have decided to learn more about their occupations.
Any tips would be greatfully received
