I have a possibility for my family in 1891 on RG12; Piece: 3190; Folio 101; Page 16. The family I am interested in is William Fletcher b1873. I have him in 1881 with his father father William and mother Ellen and siblings including Rhoda. The 1891 mentioned above has William and Rhoda but the mothers name is now Mary E??? and what appear to be "family" but not sure who they are or where they fit in.
Can anyone help me work out who the Mitchell and Ward people are in relation to the Fletchers
keeping my fingers crossed
Thanks
Ann

Look at the marks on the left.
Two lines mean a different dwelling.
One line means different families sharing a dwelling.

Well it gives relationship.Just trace her back.
Ignore the relation to head, for the time being,it may quite well be an error.
1891
Mary E Fletcher abt 1829 Marple, Cheshire, England Grandmother, Grandma (Grandmother) Hulme, Lancashire
William Fletcher abt 1874 Middleton, Lancashire, England Son Hulme, Lancashire
Rhoda Fletcher abt 1877 Middleton, Lancashire, England Daughter Hulme, Lancashire

Yes I agree, it is unlikely there is any relationship.

The Wards and Mitchells are probably connected though. Emma is the Mitchells daughter, whose partner (probably not married at this stage) was Thomas Ward.

Mary E Fletcher is Williams snrs mother. Wife of Robert Fletcher, from what I can see.

Just noticed that the address is the "Red Lion " and that the Mary E Fletcher "assists in bar Beerhouse, Inn " as does Martha A Mitchell which explains why the families are mixed.

Hi,
Mary E might be Mary Ellen, especially if there's any Irish Catholic influence in the family. I have a number of relatives who are Mary X but always known as X. It seems that they were all called Mary for religious reasons but then given the name they'd be known as. It does lead to complications when dfferent people fill in forms etc.

Good point but in this case Mary E and Ellen are different people, a generation apart. From what we can make out, Ellen is Mary E's daughter in law.
