I have a Chelsea Pensioner discharged about 1816, given as 'born Stoke and Stenny, Devon.'
Does anyone recognise this place, please?
Most censuses he gives his place of birth as Tavistock and once 'Slockentiney'
Have googled various versions but found nothing.
Any help much appreciated.

Have you tried the National Archives site for his discharge papers which should give place of birth? Put in his surname and use WO97 as the reference to search.
