Locating Service History

Can I ask one of you more experienced genealogists, how would you locate a persons service records if you have very little to go on.
I know only a name-William Bennett, an address/town- Burton on Trent, and a rough date i.e 1936 onward, possibly a death before 1959.
I believe he was an artillery soldier but I cannot be sure.
Not much to go on but can anyone tell me where to start?

Service records, for this time scale, can only be obtained by next of kin

Hi Paul if you have full name and DOB you can get records from
Army personnel Centre
MS Support Division
Historical Disclosures
Mail Point 555
Kentigern House
65 Brown Street
Glasgow
G62 8EX
You must be next of kin.It costs £30 and can take about 6 months
You will be asked for proof etc.
I believe there is also a helpful site veterans.co.uk which gives quite a lot of info
Good luck

Thanks for the tips.
Does grandson constitute next of kin?

It can do-depends on family situation. If there are no children living and you are the only/oldest grandchild then i think you would be NOK
