George's mother was Rosannah Edith Norberry Spinks - who was dealt with on another thread for me!
You've got the right family on here folks - thanks - you are so quick

THanks for the response.
It states she is Spinster - father Robert Inwood.
However, there was an older brother, Harry Roath - of whom my grandad angrily said "he's not a Roath, he's a Yapp!" and I found a memorial card among my granddad's things for Harry Yapp, died March 22nd 1926 aged 47 years.

There is this:

Marriages Dec 1882 (>99%)
Dunn Charles Cooper Birmingham 6d 187 Scan available - click to view
INWOOD Alice Birmingham 6d 187 Scan available - click to view
Roath George Birmingham 6d 187 Scan available - click to view
SOUTHALL Caroline Birmingham 6d 187 Scan available - click to view

I wonder if George's mother's maiden name is Yapp? Depending on what question he was asked when he went to register the birth of Bertram, he may have thought the registrar wanted to know his mother's maiden name, rather than the baby's mother's maiden name.

Does the marriage cert show her as spinster or widow?

Jilliflower Report 30 Dec 2009 22:59

My grandad's birth cert states the mothers name as Alice Roath formerly inwood. but his sister's birth cert states the mother's name was Alice Roath formerly Yapp.
I have the following three certs:

Bertram Roath b.8 sep 1886 father George Roath, mother Alice Roath formerly Yapp. (informant - father)

Leah Roath b.14 sep 1891 father George Roath, mother Alice Roath formerly Inwood (informant - mother)

George Roath married Alice Inwood Dec 18 1882
What do you think?
any advice welcome,thanks
