Happy New Year all. Can anyone help? I am trying to find the birth and or death records for a child who died at birth. I have a name and year but can find no records. Does anyone know if they had to be registered in the 1950's?

Stillbirths are not on the ordinary birth and death registers. They are registered separately and only the parents can have access to the records (or the stillborn child's siblings if the parents are both deceased).

The records are kept at the GRO in Southport.

A stillborn child is one that was actually dead at birth, ie never took a breath and there is a separate register which is only available to the parents ( I maybe wrong and it may be available to family, but not to the general public.).

If a child took even one breath, its birth and death should have been registered in the normal way.
