Hello could anyone please tell me which is the best and cheapest way of getting a birth certificate from about 1879 for someone born in roscommon ireland

You order it direct from the Irish GRO

http://www.groireland.ie/

You will need to order by post, (or you can fax) and the site has an application form to print off.

Cost is €10.00 per cert and you will need to pay by credit card.

Photocopy entries cos €6.00. for this you get a narrow strip of photocopy paper which has the equivalent to the middle section you see reproduced on our own certificates.
