Robert (Bob) Report 10 Apr 2012 07:40

Hello Yvonne: I don't have Louis on my tree, I just happen to be doing a quick search for a descendant of his. This Louis Apted married Sarah Ann Hawkins in Sydney, Australia, in 1901 (cert. no. 7983). Louis's death was registered at Tamworth NSW in 1939 (cert. no. 12362) and his age appears on the online death record as "78 years", which would make his dob c1861. Does that compute with your Louis?

I have not determined yet when or how this LA arrived in Oz.

Regards
Bob

Thanks so much for your help Ivy. I had never been able to find any info on Caroline Apted before. I still dont know what happened to Edward after 1861 or Louis after 1881, its very confusing. But thanks again for your help

Similarly, his elder brother Edward disappears after 1861

(born London approx 1845)

- possible references on Ancestry to Edward Apted in Canada and in Australia?

Ivy

Ivy Report 9 Jan 2010 09:08

If the "Louisa" on the 1881 census above is your ancestor, the 30 year gap has narrowed (!) to the twenty years from 1881 to 1901.

Does anyone have worldwide Ancestry? There are a couple of references from Ontario Canada (unlikely, since he mentions NZ and Victoria, but worth a look just to rule out?)

There don't seem to be any likely references on the UK emigration index, but the records on FMP only start from 1890; he may have left between 1881 and 1890?

You obviously know his date of birth, but this was on Free BMD:
Births Jun 1860   (>99%)
APPED, Louis, Pancras, 1b, 37
Original scan not clear but is Apted.

Yvonne Report 8 Jan 2010 05:03

I am researching my Grandfather Louis Apted (born in St Pancras London on 4/4/1860, died in Tamworth NSW Australia 12/6/1939). I am able to trace him in the census from 1861 and 1871 but nothing more till he married Sarah Ann Hawkins in Sydney Australia in 1901. There are no records for him at all. His death cert says that he spent time in New Zealand and Victoria Aust on his way to NSW but cant find anything there either.

Also on his wifes death certificate it says he was a widow at the time of their marriage but cannot find any record of an earlier marriage. Any ideas on where to check next?

Thanks Yvonne
