Help reading Birth Certificate

I applied for the birth certificate of my GGF Mark. I have it now, but the one bit of info I really wanted (mother's maiden name) I can't read.

To help, here's what I've been able to read:

No: 440
1: Twenty Third September 1874 Kelloe
2: Mark
3: Boy
4: George Cowell
5: Elizabeth Cowell Formerly ??????
6: Coal Pit Sinker
7: E Cowell Mother Kelloe
8: ????
9: ????

I wish sometimes these registrars could write more clearly, although I think this has also had quite a bit of generational copying.

So, if anyone can read the mother's maiden name, I'd be grateful! I had thought it was Gatenby, but I can't see that in there at all.

if you cant read it perhaps a sibling birth cert will be clearer

stood on my head but its too faint an image.

Have you tried looking for the parents' marriage?

I reckon this could be it.................

Wow. Ashton. Could well be!

Sorry if it's rotated guys, when I open it here, it comes out in landscape. Don't know why it's portrait for you... That would make it hard!

Ashton... Cor. Will have to look in to that more. If it's true (and I'm sure it's not Gatenby) that invalidates about 25 people out of my tree :-)
