WW1 Medals

I wonder if anyone can help with military records for my Great Uncle, Harry Stoneham born 1893, killed in action 1916. He was in Royal West Kent Regiment. He is listed on Ancestry in the WW1 Medals Rolls Index Cards with a medal of some sort which means nothing to me. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks for the help in advance

His WWI Service Records are also on Ancestry. Have you looked at those?

Yes, I've looked at them but the information regarding the medals is all abbreviated and I have no idea what it means. If I could copy it across, I would but I don't know how - sorry.

Beverley

He was awarded the British war medal and the Victory Medal.

The abbreviations are where the record of the medals awarded are kept.I understand at the National archives

Here is the link to the relevant page of The National Archives, which shows the medals and all the info etc etc.

As George says, the references next to the medals on the Medal Card are the references for the Medal Rolls which are held at the National Archives. Usually the only additional information they give is the battalion a man served in.

This man almost certainly served with the 6th Bn and was killed near the Hohenzollern Craters near Hulluch in France.
