Where can I find seaman records between 1881-1889?

Hello :)
My great great grandad came to England from Sweden between roughly 1881 and 1889. He came over here as a sailor and then for some reason stayed. My uncle said he stayed because there was some danger at sea and he didn't want to risk going back.
I've been told there are some records around which I might be able to find him on, however i'm having no luck..

Could anyone link me to somthing which might put me on the right path?

Try the National Archives. They have some records online at £3.50 a pop but cannot remember what years they cover.

If he was in the Royal Navy, seamans records are on the documentsonline site - you can download a record for £3-50. They cover the period you're interested in. What was his name?
