Ive started a new one on this as it had grown a bit too bulky:)

When I first started my research, I spent hours, day after day googling any and every combination of thoughts which may bring something up to help me.
I found a complete tree of one line back to 1550 and yes, it was all sourced - this lady had taken 30 years over it. Another one I found a tree as far back as me on my Norfolk lot and through that contacted a distant cousin who sent me Wills and transcripts she had found over 10 years.

Not just your family name, but anything/everything you have a query about should be googled for info. - Places, people, photos, addresses, occupations - EVERYTHING.

When looking for names you could try 'smith +phpgedview' in the search engine of choice e.g. Google.

Phpgedview is a program for online family trees. It depends on the owner of the site how recent the names are, most of the sites I've looked at have been privatised so no names with births less than 120 years ago.

You might strike lucky, I know someone who has.
