The stillbirth register started in 1927 before that there would be no record of a stillbirth .

there has been another thread about this recently

I think it said that if the child was stillborn i.e. no breath taken at all, then its birth is registered on the stillbirth register separate from normal register and only able to be viewed by parents

a baby that took a breath and then died would have both birth and death registered

The family story is that one of my ancestors actually had twin who either died in infancy or was stillborn. I have found one birth on the free bmd but only one. Does anyone know if either the birth or death of a stillborn child had to be registered? This was in the early 1920's.
