Does the marriage certificate give his father's name?

If there are only a few names like his, you can order all the certificates but specify that his father was XX. They will give a refund of either £3 or £4 for each one which doesn't meet the criteria.

But as you want to find *him*, it would be better off to search the electoral rolls, assuming he is listed. He would be about 66 now.

You can search the electoral roll on 192.com. It gives the approx age of those listed and the other people on the electoral roll in the household - particularly useful if you think you know the name of another partner.
You would have to buy credits to view the full details, but it's worth cross referencing with www.thephonebook.bt.com, or any other online directory of enquiries

Occasionally folk have credits to use and will offer lookups.

If you have Ancestry, or access to a public library which does, you could search for subsequent M or other BMD.

Thanks for the replies, we are struggling to work out which birth cert to apply for as we don't know his mothers maiden name or where he was born.

we know that he was 24 when they got married in aug 1967 ?

Do the electoral rolls show a persons age? I didn't think they did.

the marriage cert should have his age, then you can look for his birth cert with his DOB you can look for him on the electoral roll

Hi There can anybody give me any advice on how to trace a livng relative? I have very little information about my father, I have his Name, date of marriage to my mother but I do not have his date of birth and that seems to be the sticking point.
we do not know where he lives, although hear-say about him still being in manchester. we have his fathers name but no name of his mother.
where can we go from this?
many thanks Mark
