I've checked certificates and no he's not a witness. Arthur married Johanna Silley and Matthew married Alice Helena Amos.

Yes thanks they are Ernest's brothers. Ernest just does not seem to appear anywhere after 1891- that is why I'm wondering if he emigrated.

However I orderded the death certiciate( Fulham 1900) and it was not the correct Ernest.

Thanks for replying. No this is not the Ernest I'm looking for. In 1881 and 1891 he is still living with his parents Matthew and Mary Ann and his siblings Matthew, Arthur and Emily. I believe Matthew (father) and Mary Ann died in the early 1890's.

Ernest was born in Kensington, London in 1876. I have located him in the 1881 and 1891 census returns but from then can find no further trace. I have thoroughly searched the marriage and death indexes and the 1911 census. His parents were called Matthew and Mary Ann Messenger.

I am wondering if Ernest emigrated - how is the best way of finding this out?
