tracing birth and death on the same day

My Grans youngest brothers birth wasn't registered but his death a month later was
This was probably due to the fact that shorlly after he was born her youngest sister age 20 mths died and somehow the birth registration was forgotten about
The local parish records show that both children had been baptised on the same day just before the little girls death

Christina

If a child took even one breath after birth, then it is considered to have been born alive, and therefore the birth should be registered.

remember though that a death is registered immediately, but the parents have 6 weeks in which to register a birth

Therefore it may well be that the birth got registered in the next quarter

............... or it is not unknown for registering the birth to have been forgotten in all the uproar.

If you want to send the details of name and date in a personal message I will have a look to see if I can find anything in the deaths for you.

If the child lived, even for just a few seconds then it should be registered as a birth and a death. If the child was stillborn then there will not be a record in the birth and death indexes because stillbirths are registered separately and only the parents can have access to the records (or a sibling if the parents are both deceased). The stillbirth register started in 1927 - before that there was no record of stillbirths.
