Quaker Burials

Does anyone know anything about Quaker Burials in the Watford area? I ask because my grandfather died in the early 1960s. We had not previously known where he was as he was estranged from my grandmother, but apparently he had been living with Quakers. They had arranged a funeral and managed to contact a distant aunt. My mother, grandmother, aunts and uncles went to the funeral, but it was a very odd form of service and my uncle, followed by the others, walked out in disgust! As a result, we know nothing about the burial or where it might have been. I would quite like to find out more.

Have you tried a google search? I put "quaker burials watford" and quite a bit popped up. Including:

An update! I did send an email to the Quaker Family History Society and to date they haven't bothered to reply.

Does anyone on here know anything that may help?

Well, if yo google there are quite a few sites that could maybe give you some advice. Why not try several......might just be worth it??? Cx.

Thanks Cynthia

I did try that when I sent the original message, and the Quaker FHS seemed to be the best option - nothing else came up specific to Watford.

Has anyone else experienced a complete blank when emailing organisations? This was one of three emails I sent around that time. The other 2 were to military museums, giving specific details, and I had checked to make sure, as far as I possible that I had the right place for the regiments I was interested in. No reply to those either!

I see they have an address. You could try writing maybe - they do invite postal enquiries. I too have drawn a blank when sending emails so you might have more luck this way.

Thinking about it, I live in an area which has a long Quaker tradition - just down the road from Cadbury's! Don't know if they might help but there is a Quaker study centre, aimed at courses, but they do have a phone number so might be worth asking for advice:

In fact, if you just google "quaker birmingham" you get a lot more useful-looking sites so give it a go.

Thank you Brummiejan - I will. Sorry for gaps in replying - am looking after 6 year old grandson this week!

That's OK Christine. It's funny, round these parts we are all familiar with the Cadburys being Quakers but the only thing which gets commented on is the fact that the Bournville Village Trust has no pubs or off-licences!!
Thanks to you I have learned quite a bit looking at these websites. Amazing what genes membership can lead to to!
