and of course you really do have to open and look through all the records there are under a certain name to see if you can pick up a clue, such as name of next of kin!


Not all the important information is shown on the index sheets ................... such as year or place of birth etc.

There are lots of William Lloyds, but obviously you have been through all of them,so if non are him, I don't know what else you can do without knowing which regiment he was in.

Thank you, I have tried on ancestry but couldn't see anything that looked possible for him

William Lloyd born 12th June 1899 he was born in Birmingham warwickshire but the rest of the family were all born Walsall staffordshire. Even my Mom (his daughter) never knew he was born in Birmingham. family story has it he lied about his age to join up.

The surviving records are on Ancestry. Many were burnt during WW2
If you post the name and the year of birth and were the person came from, I will look for you.

is it possible to trace someones record without knowing their service number or what regiment they were in? Also a common name?
