Deaths of Census Takers

I was seeking some information on census enumerators on Google and typed in the key words "Census Taker". Google has an automated prompt which appears as one types in the words to assist in completing the key words. What surprised me was the following that appeared;

Census takers Murdered 50,400 results
Census takers Killed 36,500 resutls
Census takers Hung 11,300 results

I wonder if this why the various censi are occasionally wrong?

Dear Mick

Hello

Just shows what happens when nosey questions are asked.

It was supposed to be a responsible job.

Census information is only as truthful as the people giving it and as accurate as the person writing the details on the form.

Take care
Best wishes

Maybe that's why some people appear to be "missing", too? Could it be that the householder thought better of giving their details after the forms were taken in and followed the census taker?

It does give you food for thought, though - these days we get annoyed by all the information that the government want to hold about us (or lose, in the case of that data a while ago) and the idea of TV licensing banging on the door or the council telling us we must fill in the voting form in the autumn or face a fine, but maybe our ancestors felt just the same about their personal details being taken . . .

Worth a nudge.
