Many thanks for the info, I will definately check out the Lancashire online records. Yes, John & Elizabeth stayed in the area, and lived and died there (in Salford). I have seen one census entry which said he was a shopkeeper(provisions)

Have you tried the Lancashire online parish clerk website? I have had a look on there for some of my relations and I know they have at least some of the parish records for the Salford area on there. The address is:

There is a John Thomas b.abt 1813 on the 1881 Census Salford...He is a Bootmaker...

You can work out roughly when they married by checking on the earliest Census to find them and any children...Not an exact science but works reasonably well...
Did they stay in the Manchster or Salford area...?

Was wondering what to do next. I have traced my great(x2) grandparents John (born abt 1813) and Elizabeth Thomas (b abt 1815) he was born in Salford and she in Manchester. There is a chance that they were married before marriage certificates. Any suggestions on what to do to trace John's famiy?
