Have just got to the point of needing a recent-ish (1967) marriage cert to establish whether this is my relative.
Can someone tell me please when it becomes necessary to give exact date in order to be able to do this?
Thank you.

I'm not sure but I don't think you need an exact date to order a marriage certificate - just a birth (I'm sure someone will tell us if I'm wrong).

Oh I see! Do you happen to know the birth cert rule please while we're here? Thanks.

Age at death must be given for applications where event was registered in last 50 years

Otherwise I don't think there are any restrictions, as long as you have the ref.

Try it and see. You will get a red message if something is missing.

You can't order a birth certificate for a birth in the last 50 years unless you know the full details from the certificate (i.e. exact date of birth and parent's names) - again I'm happy to be corrected if this isn't the case.

Fingers crossed I'm OK then! The only problem might be with offspring I suppose, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it!

Many thanks

I've just entered a dummy marriage for 1980 with just the ref and it accepted it.

On testing different dates it seems births require additional details from 1960 onwards. 1959 and it doesn't ask you.
