Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 29 Jan 2010 11:29

Hi
By clicking on someones name you send a Personal Message ie PM to them and only they can read it . When people have added to any thread and there isnt any acknowledgement of their efforts on the thread then they think they have wasted time and will sometimes delete their response as they think you weren't interested.!
Unless you are giving personal details for a potentially still living person ,then you should reply on the thread by clicking on the mauve reply box at the top of the thread.
When I am trying to help someone I will send them a PM if i find info ie a birth or marriage for people who may still be alive as Genes is an open forum and peoples personal details shouldnt be posted for all to see.ie wouldn't like MY birth or marriage refs posted or my children and grandchildren etc.
Hope this helps
Shirley

To send a Personal Message to someone, just click on their name in the thread. So if I want to PM you I would click on Carol.

However, if you wish to add your thanks for help provided, why not just add it to your thread? This way everyone can see it.

Dear Kath thankyou for your help, I have been trying to reply to people but i'm not sure that they are getting through as it ended up as a message for me. Regards Carol

If people have added replies which have then been deleted it is usually because they have added something that someone else has already added so they don't want to duplicate answers.

Other times people sometimes delete answers if the person asking for information has not returned to the thread for a long time and they feel as if they have wasted their time.
