Evening All

I was looking at doing some volunteer transcribing of Parish Records. Can someone tell me how I go about this please.

Do I need to have a Microfiche Reader/Viewer?

Many thanks

Hi JoyAKA & Mrs Grumpy

Thank you both for replying. I did send Online Parish Clerks an email but never got a reply. I will give FreeReg ago and see if they reply.

Many Thanks

I too have toyed with the idea of transcribing.

Can anyone tell me what is involved?

Do I need to go to records offices and transcribe from the microfiche or do I receive a copy of what needs transcribing via post or email?

My OH is an OPC for some Cornish parishes; he has received the fiches of parish registers in the post, taken them to the library to transcribe them, and put the transcriptions on his computer at home.

One of "his" parishes is St Clether

NB he is not the ice skater :-)

FreeCEN send you a copy of your bit of the census which you work from on your computer. I expect FreeREG would be much the same - so that you can do the transcribing at home.

Plus, FreeCEN and FreeREG do not charge for people to view the results.
