Both trees meeting?

I met & married my husband in Australia knowing nothing of my ancestors past my grandparents. Now I know in the 1820s his & my ancestors came from the same parish in Somerset.

Also my best friend was born in Kenya & came to Australia in her teens. She has an ancestor with the same surname & from the same village as my husband's in the late 1700s. Parish records haven't proved a connection yet though.

Is it genes recognizing each other?

Yes.

When I started on my husband's tree I found a very uncommon surname which is also in my tree and in the same part of the country. It's back in the 1700s and the local records are good so proving our common ancestor was fairly easy. We are very remote cousins.

Absolutely no reason why not.

We have several on both our trees, although not ourselves. Most are back in the 1800's, although my wife's second cousin and her husband are a more recent example, sharing common ancestors.

I just wondered if anyone has ever had the tree of their husband/wife joining with theirs?

I have started my husband's tree and part of it is in the same area of London as my own ancestors. I wonder if I will bump into them?
