What is the fathers (John) occupation on the marriage cert?

I see there is a John W in Stockport on the 1841 census, aged 30 Mother is 25 but could easily be 29 and 11 months. John's occupation Shuttle Maker. Samuel's occupation is Mechanic - very similar trades. Mechanic was often used to denote what we would call a fitter today, at the mill.

Guess is John is Samuels son, Sam junior is staying overnight with grandma and grandad.

I will start again now that my brain is in gear.

I have the marriage certificate for Samuel Whittingham and Harriet Thomas dated 1852
Samuel`s father is given as John Whittingham.
Below is the information I have gleaned from census records.

1841 Stockport Cheshire
Samuel Whittingham 60
Nancy Whittingham 55
Samuel Whittingham 30
Harriet Whittingham 20
Mary Whittingham 15
Samuel Whittingham 10

The 1841 doesn`t give relationships so is this Samuel aged 10 the son or possible grandson of Samuel aged 60

1851
Pawel Whittingham Lodger 20 abt 1831 Male Stockport, Cheshire, England
(Wrong transcription, definately Samuel on the image)
As he is a lodger, no help there with parentage

1861 Pendleton Lancashire
(I know this is right as Pendleton is the birthplace of William, my direct ancestor)
Samuel Whittingham 30 Born Stockport
Harriet Whittingham 28
Margaret Ann Whittingham 8
John Thomas Whittingham 6
William Whittingham 3
Alfred Whittingham 1 Mo

Here he is now, married to Harriet and born in Stockport.

So, is the marriage certificate correct, is his father Samuel or John.
I have come across marriage certificates before where the fathers name is wrong

Obviously, Samuels baptism would help, but nothing on the IGI and I am miles away from the Cheshire Records Office.
