Occupation: Poruiter.

In extracts from the National Archives relating to the Boer War, an occupation is listed as : Poruiter?.

I have searched trying to find this occupation or something like it but have been unsuccessful. Please, is there someone who might have some idea what this might be.

Is the writing legible or could it be something that looks like poruiter? the trade of pargeter resembles the word ---just a thought !

The word was actually typed. I haven't a clue what his occupation was before he enlisted u nfortunately.

My guess he was a Porter. Try saying it with a strong South African accent.....1
