Hi Alison
Had a quick look on National Archives. Don't know if it's any good but found a divorce for 1929. Nellie Francis Carter wanting a divorce from husband Harry Carter.

Some of the earlier divorce records are on the National Archives site. J77 is the search number. You might find mention of it on there but you don't get a huge amount of detail. You would either have to go to Kew or ask someone else. Or you may be able to ask for photocopies ... not sure about that but the info on site would tell you.

I'm quite new to this research & hope someone can help! I'm trying to find out about my grandfather, who divorced, not sure when but probably 1920s, & remarried in 1929- I am descended from the second marriage, but there was a family from the first marriage, which I am hoping to trace. However, I can't find any record of the divorce on the National Records index, although I do have the marriage certificate from his second marriage in 1929- this states that he did obtain a divorce, but I do note that his first wife's middle name is slightly incorrect- Ellen, not Helen- which seems strange if official divorce paperwork had been produced. What evidence of his divorce would have been required prior to the second marriage? I'm wondering what to do next?
Hope to hear from someone!
