Under informant 1941 birth cert the informant is shown as the mother but 'as per Declaration dated 9th June 1941'
Does anyone know what this means?
The birthdate is early May 1941and the birth was registered 12th June 1941

this is what "by declaration" means now on a birth cert, I imagine similar in 1941 as not that long ago:

If it is inconvenient to register the birth in the area where the birth took place then the information needed to register the birth can be given to a registrar in another district. The registrar will then record the details in the form of a declaration and will send the information to the registrar for the district where the birth took place. The registrar will then record the details into the birth register and issue a short version of the birth certificate which will be posted to you. No documents will be issued at the initial declaration.

We ordered a birth cert for early 1900s and that contained the same wording.
It belonged to a Policeman's daughter and it would seem that Mum went to her own parents for the birth, then returned to her husband in another village, where the declaration was made near the family's present home.

Thank you both

Just so l understand this.

The birth took place in Paddington Hosp in May and maybe there was an air raid so Mum and baby moved before birth was registered. Mum then went to registrar in another area, gave info which was sent back to Registrar for Paddington to be recorded.

Is that probably what happened??

its also possible that mum gave birth at Paddington Hospital and that this was some distance from where she was living at the time

she would then possibly have returned home with baby and home would have been in a different reg district, it wouldn't have been easy for her to go back to the "correct" reg office so she would have gone to the nearest one

not sure you can infer an air raid unless you can find one in newspapers that fits the timing
