You could try visiting and enquiring via this website:

http://www.careleavers.com

It is open to descendants of children who have been in care as well as former residents themselves.

You are all correct, the Devil's Punchbowl is in Surrey; however, I do not know which town..
I only know the convent was run by nun's and my gran was there in the early 1920's.
If anyone has any information as to which convent/orphanage this could be I'd be extremely grateful.
Apologises for the delay in responding, I am new to posting and did not know how to view any responses.
Many thanks

About 6 miles away from Devil's Punchbowl (Hindhead, Surrey) was an orphanage called Pilgrims Wood. It's now a nursing home. You could try searching that.

the only refs to devil's punchbowl I can find are in Hindhead, Surrey or in the Mendip Hills in Somerset

that said, you may find this site helpful, but you will need to know town name:

There is a Devil's Punchbowl in Surrey, next to the A3 near Hindhead.
Is it definitely Wiltshire.?

My grandmother was put into an orphanage following the death of her mother in 1918. The only information I have is that the orphanage was run by nun's and was located near the Devil's Punchbowl in Wiltshire??
Does anyone know of this orphanage and/or where I can locate the relevent records.
