Hi, I wonder if anyone can explain how a child born under one name can have another birth record made after possible adoption in their new name.

we think the mother remarried and the children have taken the new fathers names, however these children now have two birth records under different surnames

Can you list the details?

Births can be reregistered to include the father's name. If the parents weren't married it's possible to see them listed under both surnames. Adoptions don't get entered as birth records.

Thanks very much, that is sort of what I expected. I am trying to track down a half sister for a friend who's mother left her when she was four years old. The mother had two further children with a new partner then when she remarried changed their names. I would just love to reunite the siblings again. Best wishes Ian
