I am trying to trace what happened to Annie/Annette Jennings nee Langlade who married Harry Jennings and is shown on the 1911 census (Bradford) as having a son Harry. No matter where I look I can find no trace of this little family and since this is the last key stone in my research (30 years in fact) I am really struggling to know how I can trace what happened to them. Annie/annette was born in Scotland in 1887 and moved to Bradford in the 1900's with her parents after which she met and married Harry Jennings. Here, the trail runs cold. Any suggestions would be most gratefully received. Thankyou.

When was the child born?

Was his birth registered as 'Harry'?

I must be missing something, as I can't see them in 1911 - are they mistranscibed?

Just out of interest and in case you don't have it, here are the rest of her family in 1911 - the only Langlades in Bradford as far as I can tell! Dad is French and all the children have dual French/Scottish nationality. The Auld Alliance!!

Gosh - thanks folks - most grateful indeed. You are absolutely incredible. I know that Annie/Annette was alive in 1915 because she was present at the death of her daughter Jessie, but after that as I say, her trail runs cold. I will certainly look up the marriages of Harry Jennings that you have given me and yes, the son was registered as Harry at birth as was his father. Annie/Annettes date of birth was 4th June 1887 and she was born in Scotland. Annie/Annette had four living children and then I noticed on the 1911 census that she had a fifth child 'not living' - again try as I might I cannot trace this fifth child and wondered if they were not registered if perhaps they were still births? The 'auld alliance' you are dead right there. The grandfather got into trouble for helping the Scots in France, which was one of the reasons why he came over to Scotland to live. Nowadays if the same help was applied he would have been awarded a medal.

That is possible, especially if they have mis-read what the form actually asks them for, which is "Children BORN ALIVE to present marriage".

What an interesting family! We are from Bradford area, now living in France, and recently held a Burns Night supper here in order to introduce our French neighbours to haggis (not that we have any Scots blood in our veins!) so I feel quite connected to your Langlades!!

How marvellous that you should be celebrating Burns Night - do you know you can get vegetarian haggis now! You sound so clever and I bet you speak fluent French unlike me. My schoolgirl French has got me into some hot water. On speaking to a Musee Curator he invited me to his museum and instead of telling him that I would love to very much , I told him I loved him very much - his reply was: Madame, I love you too! Because of my lack of French I have found it difficult to trace BMD in France especially since the country is split between departments and it has been a very slow process. I did go to French lessons but they eventually abandoned the classes since I was the only one left. At least I got 9 out of 10 for effort. So Annie/Annette Jennings and her family are nearly the last people to trace and I just know they are out there somewhere! And to think this all started with a painting I found 30 years ago.
