Me again.

I just remembered that I came across one couple in Ancestry's parish records who took out Banns three times over several years - and I have yet to spot a marriage - so I wonder what that was about?

One of my (trollope-y) gr gr grandmothers took out Banns with her second husband in June 1868, had a baby in Mar 1869 and another child in 1871, finally married in 1872.

I did notice that she married not long after her father had died and wondered whether maybe he disapproved of the match - but surely he would have disapproved more of the 2 children born before the marriage?

I think she may have thought that the Banns were sufficient - and maybe some kind soul pointed out that she really ought to get married ... (I don't think she was the brightest light bulb in the box either - bless her).

So, check the date the first child is born, check the dates that parents died etc. Have you found them in the 1871?

Yes Astra,

The ages and fathers names fit.

It looks like the correct couple. Does the father's name tie in with what you know? I have no idea why they waited so long it coud have been the death of a parent or any hundred other family emergencies that occur.

Henry Whitbread
Age: 35
Estimated birth year: abt 1840
Spouse Name: Eliza Baller
Spouse Age: 40
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 29 Sep 1875
Parish: St John, Limehouse Fields

Father Name: Thomas Whitbread

I have found the marriage banns for my 2x great grandparents. They were read at All Saints Poplar on 12/19/26 May 1861, BUT, they did not marry until 29th September 1875 at Saint John, Limehouse Fields.

Her was Henry Whitbread and she was Eliza Buller (Baller)

In the 1861 census they were living in Canning Town but returned to the London church for the marriage.

Any ideas as to why they would have waited so long, and fingers crossed, do I have the correct couple????

Thoughts please

Kathlyn
