I am even less techie, but how can you be using Ancestry offline?

I rather think its the data packet itself rather than the data format. Gedcom seems to accept multple date formats - for the USA and Uk markets which use a different format.

I guess I'm lucky in that roots magic seems to recognise this and converts the dates automatically from a numeric only format to a combination numeric/alpha format - eg either 1/10/1875 or 10/1/1875 to 1 Oct 1875. - mind you consistancy is all and mine are all UK standard.

Hope this helps (probably not)

Thanks for the replies. For various techy reasons I'm using 2 different computers, one (desktop) with internet access to GR and the other (laptop) offline using Ancestry.
I assumed it would be easy just to Gedcom from GR to Ancestry when wanting to update.
Having sat last night and completed the 18 tasks on Ancestry I'm left wondering if each time I transfer the file from GR I'll have the same problem.
Could it be something to do with the format I've used to enter dates on GR and so I need to change that?
Hope that makes sense?

Other members have reported this problem, and it appears that the GR export sometimes gets corrupted, although not all of the time.

Try a new export, and if you are still having problems, report the details to GR.

Hi there,

Having done the same thing myself (only with roots magic) about the only thing to do - other than try and download a new gedcom file from GR and re upload it into FTM) is to manually input that data. After all its only 18 tasks (I had several hundred).

having been bought FTM 2009 for Xmas I've finally got round to using it. I exported my tree from GR in a Gedcom and have just opened FTM to find a list of 18 "tasks" showing a list of names and against them "unrecognised date for the birth / death / marriage" etc. Under the heading "category / location" it says "Import Error"
Anyone got any tips please?
