I prefer freebmd.org.uk for all bmd searches

........... but unfortunately it doesn't yet go much after 1935/40

Maybe it's just me ... I just don't seem to be getting the records I need tidily enough. I have been using ancestry for years so I am familiar with exact search and varying the number of years, it's just not giving me the answers that are relevant enough.

I was hoping another site would be more efficient

When doing the kind of search you are wanting to do, I personally find Ancestry better than FMP.

I would just put in the surname, add 5 years on to the marriage year.....in your case 1937 + 5years = 1942........so 1942 +/- 5years, area if known, and mother's maiden name. The first names that come up should be those with mmn same as yours. If you just hover your cursor over the names in the list it will show the mmn.

You CAN search births by just putting in the surname and mother's maiden name on Ancestry for births after 1911. Use "Exact" search and preferably the "old search" option.

I should have said that i have an ancestry subscription, but have found it's search frustrating and was hoping to eliminate lengthy searched by being able to go directly on the child's surname and mother's maiden name.

I don't think findmypast.com can do this

Ancestry have the BMD indexes transcribed to 2005. but is pay per view or subscription.

Given I know the full names, dob and marriage date (1937) of both parents, which website is best for searching for children of this marriage please?
