Partially disabling computer to allow many to view

Requesting helpful advice on the following please.

I have a 17” wireless laptop that I’m wishing to put my Family Tree on & take it to a rather large family get together for all to view.
Now, apart from locking the computer to a strongpoint, how can I make it so that all family members can easily view our Family Tree electronically but they cannot copy it to a USB, enable the wireless network to perform e-mailing or perform any sort of electronic file transfers?

Yes people ‘could’ take pictures of the screen which I cannot stop but I’m trying to safeguard what a large group of us have achieved & stop one particular family member from removing it & inappropriately uploading it to the net as she has previously done, twice. She displayed to the world both living individuals & 1 very sensitive article on a deceased family member without asking any of us for appropriate permission. (Not here on Genes)

I want to be able to walk away from my laptop and communicate with others during the day & not have to worry about either it or any sort of electronic copying being performed. The individual has been asked not to do this & for her to please remove what she has on the net but after a second get together she somehow got her hands on another new edition of the file and days later it was again up for all to see. Her actions have caused a small number of family members to no longer participate or communicate with others.

The reason it’s to be displayed this way is that we are always finding more family members who are keen to join in & we want for them to be able to see what we have uncovered and for them to be able to add there own little bits if they wish on the day.

Can anyone offer advice apart from not telling her that it's on?

l am afraid that l don't know enough to advise on securing your files but has the person in question not forfeited her invitation through her previous actions

Have a good day

How can you be sure that this person 'stole' the data at a re-union?

I find it very strange that someone could clandestinely copy files from a PC in full view of several other people at a family re-union? When I first read the post I had to check it wasn't April 1st. Connecting to a wireless network extracting files and sending emails also sounds rather far fetched.

Seriously though, what software are you using? Are you using a commercial tree program? If there is a real problem of data theft, then why not remove any sensitive information from the version you take to the re-union?

A couple of distant cousins have put their trees on:

I'm not really familiar with the site, but to access their trees they did have to send me a password.
Bears checking out anyway.

To all that left comments & suggestions I thank you & here were the reasons I was asking for the help.
We normally communicate to many families prior to the event either by phone or by e-mails & let them know of the next new meeting location. As we are always encouraging many new families to join, this event is also advertised in several papers, one starting 4 weeks before the event so that those new families who are interested in coming along know of where to go and what the day's activities will be. We have many families come across the country to get to these events & this is how she learns where they are & as they are always held in public areas, she has every right to be there.

The reason we/I asked about locking down a computer is that we would like to be able to show what we have on our 'Family Tree' to all without it either being wiped clean or having it copied by one particular lady/family member & then having her upload it on a particular website displaying both living and sensitive data.

So, yes we have remove all sensitive data from the electronic file but was still wanting new families to be able to sit down, look around & add too if they wish. We just wanted to be able to lock down the computer stopping all copy or transmission functions as the lady who has caused us this concern has worked in the IT field for many years & is very apt at numerous software applications & we are concerned that if she or her family sat down they could quickly upload wirelessly or copy across to either USB or Media Card the data stored on the computer. She is VERY GOOD.

Though it may seem odd then that we are wanting to get information from others but appear to not give any back, it's certainly not the case as she is the only person who STRONGLY wishes to show the whole world our 'Family Tree' from the baby born yesterday to the gentleman who caused unspeakable anguish and does not want to hear about living & none living timeframes.....

She got her hands on an electronic copy of the Family Tree a while ago and now just adds all the new family members who add their names or the articles they add to each event. It's this action she performs that will destroy everything we have achieved as she utterly refuses to remove living individuals names and they tally a few thousand...

So again, thank you
