I was looking for information for a Norfolk ancestor (a publican) and googled www.norfolkpubs.co.uk. Once I had identified the pub, up came a list of all the licensees from 1830. If you know the area, try this method. Alternatively, you could google by typing the name of pub and the word "licensees" after it. If these methods don't work, the library in the locality of the pub in question might have a business/trade directory (Kelly's is a well known one). I think you can also do searches online via this route. Good luck. Pam

Hi Linda.

Have your tried searching The National Archives ?

If you put .........the hand and flower.......in the search there are 26 results.

There are names of those insured.....early 1800's

Hopefully they may be of help.

Malcolm.

ditto the advice about the library.

A librarian in one area I was interested in had actually written a couple of books about the pubs in the locality. It was published by the council. Bet he enjoyed the research!

Might be worth emailing the library nearest to the pub and ask for help advice.

Maybe worth contacting the actual pub now.

I have sometimes seen lists of previous landlands displayed in pubs.

Tried that Marion, I can get the history of the pub and what's happening now but no archive of landlords/landladies.
