Diane
with respect theres not much point piggy backing your own enquiry onto an unrelated thread as its highly unlikely to get picked up.
Best to delete it from this thread and start a new one for your enquiry

Oh that`s good work Kathleen. That tells me that he did go back to live in Wales where he was born. How interesting.

I wonder if this could be the marriage:-

Name: Alexander Davey
Spouse Surname: Jenkins
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1963
Registration district: Cardiff
Registration county (inferred): Glamorgan
Volume Number: 8b
Page Number: 567

The spouse is transcribed as Brenda D. A. Jenkins (but the D could possibly have been a mistranscription for O. (In fact looking at the actual image of the page it looks like an "O" to me.

And possibly Brenda's birth:-

Name: Brenda O A Jenkins
Mother's Maiden Surname: Griffiths
Date of Registration: Apr May Jun 1925
Registration district: Pontypridd
Registration county: Wales
Volume Number: 11a
Page Number: 956

ER - you need to contact/visit the library local to the area where they lived.

I've looked on them at the London Metropolitan Archives on a microfilm, and it was a bit of a slow haul. Searchable only by address as such.

That death cert sounds a good bet, then write to the occupiers of the address where she lived - the neighbours may still be around and may have some info.

Thanks all.

Shirley - Gosh, she was 20 years younger than him, only 10 yrs older than my Mum. I`m wondering if they were married or whether she just added his Sir name.
I think I will get the cert, as you say the name of the informant could be helpful.

If anyone`s got time and energy a proof of marriage would be good as I couldn`t find it but i`m rubbish at searching on this site, it seems to take forever.

Mrs G - How do you go about looking up on the ER? Can you see where people have lived previously aswell?

Janet - I searched trees ages ago, havn`t started on siblings yet as there seems to be about 12 of them! ( I work about 50 hours a week, I think I might have to retire and take this up full time..)

Thanks to everyone, it`s much appreciated.

You could see if you can spot him on the Electoral Roll at his last known address and then come forwards on that address to see if his widow was still there. Although I'm not sure at what age you no longer show on the Electoral Roll so that may not help. But, if you trace back at that address they may have been living there for some years ...

You could write to the occupiers at that address to see if they or their neighbours remember him, or know what happened to his widow. Might be a long shot but could be worth a try.

I have found records for my lost Grandfather on behalf of my Mum who was brought up in a children`s home.
I now have his birth cert.(b1905), 1st marriage cert. and death cert. So we know for sure he died in 1989 and what his job was before he retired and his last address.
I guess my aim is to find out information about his life rather than to trace the family tree any farther back - we have the names of his siblings and parents.
We know for sure he tried to trace my Mother, I think during the 1960`s or 70`s as he sent a solicitor to a Great Aunt`s home but she sent him away (sadly and unknown to my Mother).
Now my Mum is in her 70`s, she takes great joy from any little bit of information I find for her, like the names of her Grandparents she never met.
So now I find on his death cert. the name of a wife who was present at his death. I have tried to find records for her but havn`t been able to. It is possible but unlikely that she could still be living, or she may have relatives who may have photos of my Grandfather. I think that would be lovely for my Mum if she could see a photo of her Father!
Any ideas?
Her name on the death cert. was Brenda Ortega Ayrton Davey.
I can`t find a marriage between her and my Grandfather, Alexander Davey. Is Ortega a middle name and Ayrton a maiden name do you think?
What other info do you think I could find out about him?
