The maps arrived this morning, 36 hours after ordering. And the maps are brilliant. I highly recommend alan godfrey maps.

On the reverse of the map is a write up about the area covered and extracts of Kellys Directory of Bristol.

I just found out that the piece of land where I played as a child was a disused burial ground!!! I bet my mum didnt know that.

Hi Nick,

I live in Bristol and was also after names of streets. I found a good book at my local library with regards Bristol street names which also has details of why the streets where named as they were. If you would like to PM me with some of the street names I will see if I can find any of them for you.

Regards
Kelly

Thanks Gwyn, thats the problem I'm not local to Bristol. In fact I seem to live in the only part of the counrty that none of my family come from.

Main libraries local to the address often have old maps.
I found the librarian very helpful when I asked about a street that still existed, but had been re named.

Hello

Is there anyway of finding a streets previous name or the name of a street that no longer exists?

Failing that, are old maps any good for this and if so is there a reliable source for buying old street maps(or free, I have no objection to free stuff). My particular area of interest at the moment is Bristol, especially the Barton Hill and Eastville areas.

Thanks
Nick
