If you google 'sponsor at baptism' you'll get lots of info. about it - both Anglican and Roman Catholic.

I believe the Sponsor and Godparent are the same thing but the title of sponsor is used if the one being baptised is an adult.
not certain though!

On a baptism record I have a Sponsor Kezziah Whitfield - does anyone know would this be the equivilent of a godparent now??
